Seriously Simple Acquisition

On 13 December 2012, I launched Seriously Simple Podcasting – a plugin that I initially built for my church’s website, but then expanded into a full-featured podcasting plugin available for anyone to use. The initial purpose behind the plugin was to create a podcasting experience for WordPress that none of the other available options at the time offered – simple, hassle-free podcast management using a simple UI that did not sacrifice features for ease-of-use. Essentially, I wanted to democratise podcasting in a way that no other WordPress-based options were doing.

Now, 13 major releases of WordPress later, the time has come for me to move on from building and maintaining Seriously Simple Podcasting.

This is not because I no longer believe in the product or the mission to democratise podcasting – far from it – I am in fact selling the plugin (along with all of its add-ons) as I just no longer have the time or bandwidth available to support it in the way that I know it deserves. Seriously Simple Podcasting has always been a passion project for me that I worked on when I had a chance to do so – it never was (nor did I ever intend it to be) a full-time project for me. The new owner of the plugin will certainly be doing it justice I’m sure – we have spoken about a few future plans for it and I, for one, am very excited to see where it goes.

The new owner of Seriously Simple Podcasting is Craig Hewitt of Podcast Motor – Given the nature of his business, I see a very bright future for Seriously Simple Podcasting and I can’t wait to see what he does with it.

While I’m sad to say goodbye to this plugin that I have spent 4 years building and nurturing, I think that in Craig’s hands it will be able to flourish in a way that I could never have enabled. So thanks to everyone who uses and loves the plugin – it’s nearly at 20,000 active installs and still retains the highest rating for any podcasting plugin in the WordPress Plugin Directory – a fact that I know will continue to remain the same.

A huge thanks Hugh for all your work on SSP, including but not limited too the support forum! Letting go the project while it’s still active and not letting it decay because of lack of time is quite a courageous step too I believe. Thank you!

Thanks Fred! I really don’t want to see this plugin die purely because I don’t have time to look after it myself, so letting go of it like this was a big decision to make, but ultimately the correct one 🙂
